Czech government allows to continue Uranium mining until 2008

The Czech government decided in the middle of October to allow continuation of Uranium mining in Dolni Rozinka at least until 2008. The Minister of Industry explains this recent prolonging with the higher price of Uranium on the world markets. What he is not saying is that taxpayers will have to pay for the redevelopment of all the contaminated mining sites situated in Czech Republic.
Moreover, the Uranium industry is looking for new opportunities and threatens to commence mining in other locations: in the Vysocina (Czech Highlands) as well as in South Bohemia.
