Four Central European organisations cooperate since 2003 in a crossborder project in order to support each other in their activities to achieve more transparency and influence of NGOs and the people in the regions during the selection process of sites for nuclear waste repositories.

Since nuclear waste is a key issue for the continuation of nuclear energy use, we invite all NGOs engaged in environmental protection, sustainable development, phasing out of nuclear power to join our coalition.

In the last year we have analyzed management plans for nuclear fuel in the three new EU member states and the procedures for site selection. The results are summarized in a report, where we discussed also the EU legislation concerning public information and participation.

In November 2003 nuclear waste watch organized a workshop on public partizipation and nuclear waste management plans in different European countries. We invited speakers of the German AKend, and of the Czech, Hungarian and Slovak waste management agency. the documentation of their presentations and the discussion is available.
